Crude Oil is not a normal ore vein. It sits underground as a reserve: you scan for oil density with Radar Mode, clear the spot with the Jackhammer, then extract it through an Oil Pipe Head instead of mining it by hand.

Where to find it

Crude Oil sits deep underground as a reserve, not as a surface vein you can dig by hand. The known reserve is on the Desert property outside Redstone City — the v1.1.0 property screen shows whether a lot holds an oil reserve and how much is left, so you can confirm the reserve before you invest in equipment.

Because it is a reserve, the whole extraction flow is different from mining ore: you locate density with a scanner, clear the ground, and pull the oil up through a surface unit instead of swinging a pickaxe at a node.

How to find and extract

  • Scan: switch the Ore Detector to Radar Mode on the Desert property and look for oil density readings. Radar Mode works like a simple underground sonar for oil.
  • Clear: use the Jackhammer on the marked spot to open the oil layer. The Jackhammer is a pre-existing tool, not new in v1.1.0. Community-verified
  • Install: place an Oil Pipe Head on the cleared reserve.
  • Connect: run free-placement pipes from the Pipe Head down to the oil bed.

The Oil Pipe Head is the surface extraction unit — the part many players will search for as the oil pump.

Transport and storage

  • A Tanker Truck collects Crude Oil at the well and hauls it back to your factory. Once connected, the motor starts and Crude Oil slowly transfers into the tanker.
  • The factory Oil Tank stores Crude Oil until it goes to processing.
  • Community-verified Tanker loading and unloading feels slow — plan round trips instead of idling at the well.
  • Community-reported Players report that the Oil Tank has no pipe output port, so plan truck logistics around it.

  • Fuel — separated from Crude Oil in the Oil Refinery.
  • Bitumen — separated from Crude Oil in the Oil Refinery.
